P'Ball Report - January 27, 2010

We had a nice day for Pickleball and a good turnout of eleven players. The one and only problem we had was a big shortage of courts. It turns out that one court was occupied by tennis players - if you can believe that. As our group grew, we eyed the tennis players figuring that they wouldn'y stick around long. But, they kept at it for two hours. So, by mutual consensus, the Fab Foursome of Spidy, Stevie Wonder, Ralph and John (Spin Doctor) took off for McPherson Park where they played about five games, but not before they got some games in at Timmons.

The players: Steve (Stevie Wonder), Mike (Spidy), Dave, Catherine, Anne (Pit Bull), Bob H (Buckeye), Sharon (Cupcake), Ralph, John, (Spin Doctor), Rebecca (new today, but a quick study), and your's truly Ron (Spike).

We had many fine games at Timmons including a few big comeback wins. Sunny with some breeze. Dave had some masterful spin on his returns, that caused a few players to corkscrew around while flailing wildly at balls that ended up being where they weren't expected to be.

The photo above is of Anne (aka Pit Bull). The photo is not blurry because the photographer didn't steady the camera. Not on your life! Anne was so quick at this moment that even though the shutter speed was set to 1/2000th of a second, it was not quick enough to stop her incredible speed. So, fast even, that the court is blurry as well.

Three of the Fab Foursome returned from McPherson and reported on their adventures. Good thing they got some games in, because just before they returned, the two tennis players left and were almost immediately replaced by a tennis instructor and his student.

Pickleball Sunday Afternoon 12-6-09

Christmas shopping must have taken most of our players today but we still ended up with 6. We had 3 hours of good playing. Ralph, Catherine, Dave, Joanie, Ken & I were the group today. We rotated 2 in at a time after each game with everyone getting to play 2 games in a row. The players that were out played half court singles. It was a nice afternoon..... better than I thought it would be. Sunny, about 50 and the wind was not a problem at all. We had fun. Sorry you shoppers missed it. Catherine took a video with her phone so we're going to try to put it on the blog when she sends it. Planning to play tomorrow (Monday). Hope you make it then. Lynn

Pickleball Saturday Morning 11-14-09

It was a great morning for pickleball. We played our first ever scheduled pickleball session at McPherson Park this morning. 4 of us started playing just before 9:00..... Mike, Steve, Ken and I. We had to play at McPherson Park as there was a disc golf tournament going on at Timmons. The 4 of us played for a couple of hours then shortly after 11:00 Catherine and Dave arrived. We were finishing up a game so they went over on the other court and hit some balls to warm up. It worked out good that Catherine and Dave came as Mike had to go home to watch the Clemson football game on TV. The 5 of us that were left played till about 12:30 and then called it a day. We're planning to play Monday morning at 9:00 back at Timmons Park. Hope to see everyone there. Lynn

Pickleball Friday Afternoon 11-13-09

Today was the first opportunity to play pickleball all week since Monday. The remnants of hurricane Ida came through and dumped rain on us Monday night, Tuesday, Tuesday night and part of the day Wednesday. Wind came with it and continued to blow the rest of Wednesday and all day Thursday so pickleball was out of the question. Today the weather was in the low 70's, sunny and the wind didn't seem to be much of a factor. It was actually hot out there. 15 pickleball players turned out today for the games. Present were Steve, Bob T., Mike, Johnny, Gary, John, Ron, Sharon, Catherine, Dave, Pete P., Joanie, Bob H., Ken and I. Gary came back after coming last Friday for the first time. He's a good player and we hope he'll be back. We hadn't seen Pete in a few months. He came for a short time. It was nice to see him. Of course Dave and Catherine are still kind of newbies but sure don't seem like it. They are both playing very well. We miss Carol and hope she is doing better. She has had some health issues lately but Johnny says she may come to p'ball next week. I hope so. A few of us are going to get together are McPherson Park tomorrow morning and play some. We've been pushed out of Timmons for the weekend by a disc golf tournament going on there. Looking forward to more fun and pickleball games..... Lynn

Pickleball Saturday Morning 11-7-09

The morning started off in the low 40's but the sun was out and there was no wind. We warmed up quickly after we started playing. There were 7 of us total for pickleball today and we had a good time. We had another new player today. Her name is Diane and she just moved here from Minnesota. She has been a racquet ball player in the past so she did very well with pickleball. We started out with 4 players this morning for the first game..... Steve, Catherine, Ken and I. Then Joanie arrived before 9:30. We rotated her in to the next game. Diane was next and Ken worked with her on the other court explaining how the game is played and hitting some balls with her. By the time Diane had to leave Dave showed up. We were back to 5 players then and went back to rotating a player out and one back in. Catherine left before we were finished for the day so Ken, Steve, Dave and I played one more game before calling it quits.

The weather report for Tuesday is 50% chance of rain so we're thinking we're going to have to plan for Monday. Hope you can make it. Lynn

Pickleball Friday Afternoon 11-6-09

We had 15 pickleball players today. It was a crazy day. Mike wanted to set paddles against the fence for each court separately. The jury's still out on that one. We had some new players..... Muriel and Gary. They are very good tennis players and also in our hiking group. They took to the game and played well. We had a beautiful afternoon for playing. The players today were Steve, Ralph, Mike, Ron, Catherine, Dave, Fernando, Johnny, Carol, Gary, Muriel, Dorothy, Bob H., Ken and I. Even though it was on the crazy side we had fun. When we get 16 or more players we're thinking about taking half the group to McPherson Park where we have pickleball lines painted on the tennis courts there. That's only about a mile away from Timmons. We're playing tomorrow morning at 9:00 at Timmons Park. Hope you can come..... Lynn

Pickleball Sunday Afternoon 11-1-09

We had a good group of pickleballers for a Sunday afternoon. 12 players turned out to play pickleball today. Steve, Laurie, Mike, Ralph, John, Joanie, Jan, Catherine, Dave, Dorothy, Ken & I. Dave is Catherine's husband and he came to try pickleball for his first time. He played really well. It was Laurie's first time to play with us but not her first time to play pickleball. She has been playing pickleball at The Villages in Florida when she goes down to visit her family there. She also played very well. Some of Joanie's family came to watch so we had an audience some of the time. It was great fun and we had some good games. I'm so glad everyone came. I am looking forward to tomorrow for more pickleball. Hope to see everyone then including players that were not able to make it today. Lynn
