Highland Lakes Pickleball Group Goes To Hawthorne Community to Play Pickleball

Who's playing the left side of the court here?

Ken and I went with the Highland Lakes group over to Hawthorne (another retirement community) today to play pickleball with the group there. They have 3 nice new outdoor pickleball courts. We had a great time and played about 2 hours and 40 minutes. It was about 60 degrees today so it was not hot but the sun was shinning. We all had a great time and the Hawthorne folks were very hospitable furnishing balls and bottled water.
The players from Highland Lakes that attended were Manny, Marie, Irene, Cal, Dick, Marvin, Susan, Cindy, Don, Ken and I.
The Hawthorne group has been invited over to play at Highland Lakes on Monday night so that should be another good pickleball time.
Hope to C U on D Courts!!! ......Lynn

Pickleball Friday 1-30-09

A mostly sunny day, but very windy for most of the 2-1/2 hours that we played. It was chilly, too. For a while we had seven players but only 6 paddles: Blake, Ashley, Claude, Jan, Joanie, Sharon and me. We played doubles on one court and singles on the other. Joanie arrived about 1:45 PM, and Blake and Ashley had to leave at 2:00. So we had enough paddles; played doubles and worked the 5th person at the end of each game. The northwest wind played havoc with the games and it took a gallant effort the keep the balls in the court. The biggest winner for the day was the wind. But, we had a good time. We'll watch the weather, then decide when we'll be able to play next week.

Pickleball Monday 1-26-09

We played pickleball today because the weather predictions for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday are questionable. We had 5 players: Ralph, Steve, Jan, Sharon and me. We rotated the 5th player in after each game. Lots of good games and a few blowouts usually with Steve and Sharon on the winning end. We played for 2-1/2 hours. It was overcast, about 50 degrees and NO wind for a change. If the weatherman is correct, it looks like we'll be able to play again on Friday.

Pickleball Friday 1-23-09

Group picture (minus Bob H.) taken by Ken
What a day for pickleball!!! Thank you to everyone for coming. It was so nice. Somewhere around 60 degrees, the sun was out.......we did have some wind but it wasn't too bad. Kind of made things more interesting. As you can see some of us were in shorts again. It was a great break from the winter weather that we've been having. We had 9 pickleball players today......
Steve, Ralph, Lynne S., Mike, Bob H., John, Joanie, Ken and I. Hadn't seen Bob in a while. He was back out in those new shoes tearing up the court. Everyone was playing well and of course we had a lot of good games. We did miss Ron and Sharon and are really sorry that they didn't get to play twice this week too. Oh! Also Bridget, our pickleball mascot, was with us today. She guarded the courts. I practiced with my new camera again. I think I might have gotten a little better with it today but still need lots of practice.
Ron and Sharon will be planning the pickleball sessions and sending out the messages for a couple of weeks. So hope to C U on D courts......Lynn

Pickleball Thursday 1-22-09

It's been so cold this week we haven't been able to play pickleball till today. Finally it warmed up to the low 50's, the sun was out and not too much wind today. Some were even in shorts! It was nice after all this winter weather. There were 11 pickleball players today so we had to rotate in and rotate out. Present for pickleball were Ron, Sharon, Steve, Ralph, John, Anne, Blake, Ashley, Joanie, Ken and I. We hadn't seen John since back in November. He has been very ill but he seems to be ok now. He sure didn't need a learning curve to get back into pickleball today. We also hadn't seen Blake in several months. He has been getting over some surgery that he had done on his foot. He brought Ashley, his girlfriend. Ashley did very well it being her first time to play. Jan came by to see us on her way out of town. We were sorry that she couldn't get in a few quick games before hitting the road. We had a great time playing today. I have a new digital camera so I took a few pictures. It looks like we have enough interest to play tomorrow so we hope to see everyone that can make it. It's going to be around 60 degrees and maybe more. Should be great weather.
Hope to see you all tomorrow. Lynn

Pickleball Wednesday 1-14-09

We don't usually play pickleball on Wednesdays but with this weather the way it is we have to grab what we can. There were 8 players today....Ron, Sharon, Steve, Ralph, Jan, Joanie, Ken and I. It got to 49 degrees today, it was sunny and there was a little more wind than we like. We played till 4:00 and had some good games.
Today was Ken's 100th day playing pickleball with the group.

The next 2 days are looking pretty cold, especially Friday.....suppose to be 31 degrees. Looks like we'll regroup next week for more pickleball. At least we did get in 2 days this week.

Hope to C U on D courts.....Lynn

Pickleball Monday 1-12-09

We had 7 for pickleball today but only 6 players. Ron was not able to play because of a medical test so he shagged balls for us. It was a pretty good day.....sunny, high in the 50's and no wind.

We missed all of our missing players. Jan was at a funeral in Columbia. John emailed last week that he has been very sick and in the hospital. We are hoping that he will be back soon. The rest we don't know about.

We ordered new balls last Monday and they finally came today. When we got home the bill for them was in the mail box but no balls. Then we got to our front door and there was the slip from the UPS man that they were at the complex office. We got 2 packages of 13 balls in each one.

It's looking pretty cold the rest of this week. The forecast for Friday is with a high of 35 degrees.....brrrrr. Thursday is looking windy and 40 degrees. So we are thinking about Wednesday. It's still going to be in the 40's but hopefully the wind won't be bad. Once we start playing we always warm up quickly. Most of us were in shorts today.

Oh well.....Hope to C U on D Courts soon.....Lynn

Pickleball Friday 1-9-09

We had a great time playing pickleball today. There were 8 pickleball players and 1 visitor. Present to play were Steve, Ralph, Jan, Anne, Bob H., Mike, Ken and I. Our visitor was Lynne S. She had turned her foot and ankle yesterday so could not play today. We missed Ron and Sharon today as they had to have some work done at their home and could not make it. But we did get our 8 players and that was nice. We had some good games and the weather was really nice.....sunny, mid 50's and a little wind but not too bad. Most of us were in shorts but a light jacket was nice to have on. We played for almost 3 hours till 4:00. Bob H.'s new shoes are really helping his game but Steve might want to try to find his receipt for his.

We're hoping to play Monday or Tuesday next week. Right now Monday looks like the better day.

Hope to C U on D courts next week.......Lynn

Pickleball Monday 1-5-09

The day started out rainy and foggy this morning but by 1:00 pickleball time the sun came out and we had a beautiful afternoon for pickleball. It was in the upper 60's and a little breezy.

There were 11 present for pickleball today......Ron, Sharon, Bing, Steve, Ralph, Jan, Elaine, Anne, Joanie, Ken and I. It was really nice to have a good turnout after the holidays.

Looks like more rain this week but hopefully by Friday we can all get together again for more pickleball.

Hope to C U on D Courts....Lynn
